It’s great to see the worlds of mixed martial arts and kickboxing merge together in the gym. We’d recently seen footage of kickboxing legend John Wayne Parr mixing up with some familiar faces in the gym, leaving his influence on some well known fighters.
Perhaps the best examples of kickboxing/MMA crossovers are K-1 champ Alistair Overeem, currently a UFC heavyweight, and the now retired Mirko Cro Cop. Cro Cop was undoubtedly the most successful of the two, being the most feared striker in the Pride FC era.
The subject of today’s article is a sparring session that went down between a world champion kickboxer, and two top level UFC fighters. Training out of the well known Jaco Hybrid camp, also known as the Blackzilians, two time UFC champion Vitor Belfort and UFC lightweight Michael Johnson are the MMA fighters in question.
‘The Phenom’ Vitor Belfort recently destroyed Dan Henderson for the second time in as many years, crushing the fellow Pride veteran by knockout. Johnson, known as ‘The Menace’ is set to face Nate Diaz this weekend at UFC Orlando.
Interestingly enough, Diaz and Johnson had a heated face off today, shown in the following video:
