Up until recently, the belief had been that Alvarez planned to use his wrestling to control Conor. To potentially counter for this Conor has reportedly spent much of his camp training with BJJ black belt Dillon Danis and wrestling coach Sergei Pikulskiy.

Comments made by Alvarez at the open workouts however, indicate that he may have decided to change game plans.
“I think I’m going to land that big shot,” Alvarez stated at the workouts. “I think this guy’s worried about a lot of grappling and a lot of wrestling.”
Of course that could just be Alvarez trying to get into Conor’s head.

Other Critics of UFC 205’s Main Event
Similar to Jose Aldo, lightweight contenders Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson have reasons to be upset at UFC 205’s main event. Nurmagomedov is the only undefeated lightweight in the division with more than 2 fights in the UFC, and has the most wins of any undefeated fighter with the promotion. Yet that still wasn’t enough to earn him a shot at the lightweight belt over Conor. Similarly Ferguson, who recently moved to #1 in the lightweight rankings, has a 9-fight UFC win streak, tying a record for longest win streak without having been rewarded with a title shot.
