The UFC 210 Light Heavyweight Title Fight Was Almost Cancelled…

The UFC light heavyweight title fight between Anthony Johnson and Daniel Cormier was almost called off today, as Daniel Cormier struggled to make weight. While he would eventually weigh-in at 205lbs, many feel Cormier cheated the procedure.

The early weigh-ins for UFC 2010 were held this morning, and Daniel Cormier stepped on the scales initially at 206.2lbs. At the time he only had 5 minutes remaining within the weigh-in time limit. Cormier left and returned just 2min30sec later and had dropped 1.2 pounds.

Cormier’s weigh-in was not the only controversial ruling made by the New York State Athletic Commission however…

All other fighters made weight, but the bout between Cynthia Calvillo vs. Pearl Gonzales has been scrapped. The New York State Athletic Commission ruled Pearl Gonzales unable to compete due to her having breast implants. New York does not allow fighters to have such implants, as they could rupture during a fight. Nevada and California both allow them.

Daniel Cormier Weigh-In Controversy

There are two parts of the above video which has Daniel Cormier’s haters fuming. The first is Cormier’s apparent leaning on the towel. Leaning on the towel is an old trick, as it is believed a fighter can transfer some of his weight onto it while on the scale.

Fans were also upset when Cormier was allowed to step on the scale twice. Under the new weigh-in procedures it was believed fighters were no longer permitted to do this. This rule was later clarified as not applying to title fights however.
