This MMA Fighter Holds The Record For the Fastest Ever Finishes in Professional Cage Fighting…

The question of who has the fastest knockout in MMA is a difficult one to answer. Obviously, it’s easier to say from the biggest promotions because every statistic is recorded and fights are analyzed from every angle. When you move down into the regional game, then it becomes a little bit more complicated.

There are more variables to a breaking a knockout record than simply laying your opponent at the floor. One thing that many people don’t take into account is the fact that the fight stops when the referee stops the fight. Not when the victim hits the ground unconscious.

So if you’ve got Mario Yamasaki in charge, then kiss goodbye your chances of ever breaking a knockout record. You’ll be hammer-fisting your opponent for the next 20 minutes. A slow-moving referee will easily turn a 3 second KO into a 7 or 8 second KO.

Record-Breaking

Mike ‘Shredder’ Garrett is an MMA fighter from Britain. He officially holds the record for the fastest MMA knockouts. Yes – that’s knockouts plural. He has finished two opponents with a combined time of 4.63 seconds. That’s absolutely incredible.

Garrett obliterated Sam Heron with a shin kick to the chin at WCMMA 14. He smashed his opponent in 1.13 seconds. It’s a ludicrous time that makes Conor McGregor’s KO win over Jose Aldo feel like you’re watching the extended edition of The Lord of the Rings.

And Again…

Once wasn’t enough for Garrett. He managed to repeat the deed, this time in 3.5 seconds. He managed to punch out his welterweight rival Jimi Animashaun, laying the fighter out on the ground before he even knew the fight had started.

It’s simply remarkable really that one man has managed to create this unique highlight reel. With a professional record of 4 wins and 1 loss, Garrett must be pleased that even if he doesn’t go on to be a world-class fighter in a major organization, at least he has gone viral with these incredible speedy finishes.

Perspective

Let’s compare Garrett’s flying finishes to the UFC’s fastest ever knockouts. The joint-record for fastest finish in the world’s premier MMA promotion is practically sluggish by ‘Shredder’s’ standards. It’s a whole 7 seconds.

The record was broken in 2009. Todd Duffee obliterated Tim Hague in under 10 seconds when he demolished him at UFC 102, in The Rose Garden, Oregon. This record has been matched twice since then. Lightweight fighter, Chan Sung Jung, AKA The Korean Zombie, repeated Duffee’s feat at UFC 140, with a devastating straight right hand.

The only other 7-second finish was by Canadian Ryan Jimmo at UFC 149. He finished Anthony Perosh in Alberta in devastating style. Some people think that there is something anti-climatic about a fast finish – especially if you stay up all night to watch the fight. We say screw that. Fast finishes are awesome.
