An Exciting MMA Debut Was Ruined By A Sickening Decision… After A Fighter Decided to Spit on His KOed Opponent…
We all love a bit of trash talk amongst fighters. It’s entertaining and creates drama. When there’s a genuine rivalry like TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt, or Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier, it makes it even better. You never know what’s going to kick off when these guys are in each other’s faces.
There is definitely one thing you never do to your opponent though: spit on them. No matter what sport you are in, spitting just shows an absolute lack of class. For one young fighter, it could cost him a potentially exciting career.
Josh Newman is a collegiate wrestling champion from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He made his professional MMA debut the other day for Pure Fighting Championships. Watch the video footage below and you’ll see why he won’t be fighting again anytime soon.
Bad Decision
Just what was going through his head? It was a ridiculous decision. He had just absolutely ignited his opponent, KOing him with a spectacular spinning back-fist. It was an excellent finish. It’s a pity about what happened next.
Promoter Jake Klipp issued a statement after the disgraceful event. He said:
“In what should have been a totally impressive amateur debut and great win last night at Pure Fighting Championships, one fighter marred our show with the lowest display of class I have ever witnessed. UW Whitewater national champ must not have learned any self control or sportsmanship.”
Code of Etiquette
Most times even when fighters don’t like each other, they’ll at least acknowledge that they’ve risked their health by taking each other on and show respect after the fight. Spitting on your opponent is not doing that. Klipp continued:
“They were trash talking on the Internet, so I didn’t mind the name calling when I heard it after the fight. But when you add in the fact that he called his opponent a “fucking pussy” while the doctor was examining him and a “c**t” twice in the cage with the fact that he SPIT on my fighter and I guarantee you that Roufusport MMA Academy fighter Jordan Newman will NEVER fight for me again.
I’m contacting every promoter I know in the Midwest to let them know what kind of an asshole he is, as well. Oh, then he ran back into the locker room area and told several of my fighters that Josh is a pussy and he beat the f**k out of him. Feel free to share. What a miserable boy.”
Immature
It is worth remembering that this is a very young guy. We all make mistakes – jeez, remember that guy who did a front flip onto his opponent after knocking him out? It’s actually quite complicated. Which is worse? Spitting on someone or actually inflicting harm on them?
Newman trains out of Roufussport, and you can guarantee that isn’t what acclaimed coach Duke Roufus is teaching his fighters. Do you think the young man deserves another chance?
