After his first knockout loss in his pro MMA career, Conor Mcgregor’s supposed options have changed. In the build-up, he wanted to either get a rematch against Khabib or fight Manny Pacquiao in a boxing match but with the recent loss, it is unlikely that he will get those fights.

Although Manny Pacquiao posted in his twitter page, that anything can happen in the sport and he congratulated Dustin Poirier in his fantastic performance. Some reports indicate that Ryan Garcia wants to fight Pacquiao but no official announcement as of the moment.

So what is next for the UFC’s biggest star? He said that he wants to fight Dustin Poirier for the trilogy match and Poirier also wants to fight for it. Obviously, Poirier wants to fight him because of the money. The fight was close in the early minutes, one could think Mcgregor was winning on the feet, but eventually his legs gave up.

Poirier was just being cautious in the early rounds, as he usually gets better in the later half. Mcgregor also tends to get slower in the later rounds as shown in his fight against Diaz and even Mayweather, so that is another reason that Poirier was just taking his time.

Another match that Mcgregor wants is the Diaz trilogy, which is also possible. Dustin Poirier wants the Mcgregor match but the UFC may not grant it as they may be looking for Poirier to fight for the title next. Since Khabib retired, there is no undisputed lightweight champion at the moment and Poirier is clearly the frontliner.

It would also make a great fight for Mcgregor to prove that he still belongs in the top lightweights. An immediate rematch with Poirier might be dangerous for Mcgregor’s career as he is 2-2 in his last four fights. He indicated that the ring inactivity may have played a factor in the fight, Diaz has not fought since 2019 November against Jorge Masvidal.

In Dana White’s opinion, there are only two options for the Irish fighter. It is either come back even hungrier and avenge his loss or retire for good. Mcgregor does not need money anymore as he has achieved everything he ever wanted, the only thing that he does this is because of his competitive spirit.
