Nick Diaz appears to be finally coming back. After five years on the sidelines, he’s decided to return in 2021. The elder Diaz brother is in shape and training to return to the welterweight division. His last appearance was in 2015, which ended in a no-contest with Anderson Silva.

But you have to go back even further to 2011 for his last victory when he defeated BJ Penn. His next fight was a defeat to Carlos Condit for the interim middleweight title. Then he tested positive for marijuana and had to deal with multiple lengthy bans. Now it looks like he’s going to fight again at welterweight.

However, if he does return, the question is who will he fight? Let’s take a look at the favorites for this potential match-up via Bloody Elbow, and analyze his potential opponents. While Anderson Silva and Darren Till are both mentioned on the list of betting favorites, we’re not going to talk about them because we don’t seem as realistic.

5. Jorge Masvidal

If you want to give Diaz the opportunity to get into title contention, have a massive storyline, and make a tonne of cash, then this is a superb match-up. Bring back the BMF belt and allow Masvidal the chance to be the first man to beat both Diaz brothers. It would be incredible.

There’s already bad blood between the two of them because Masvidal said that he would ‘baptize’ Nate. The elder Diaz didn’t take kindly to these comments about his younger brother. However, it would be an extremely tough return for Nick after so long out of action.
