Cyborg’s Jiu Jitsu
9 of Ronda Rousey’s 13 professional victories have come by way of the arm bar, so one might think that Rousey could overcome the size disparity by utilizing submissions. The only problem is that Cyborg’s a brown belt in jiu-jitsu, and won the purple belt gold medal at the 2011 and 2012 IBJJF World Jiu-Jitsu championships. What is interesting about that is that she won the purple belt gold medal, so clearly she is the best purple belt in the world, but wasn’t awarded her brown belt a year later. There are clearly no short cuts to belt promotions under Andre Galvao.
Cyborg also finished with a bronze medal at the 2009 Abu Dhabi World Championships. So her submission skills are perhaps more advanced than Rousey is used to. Ronda won’t be able to get her into that armbar.
