No.7: Mark Hunt

At 44-years-old, Mark Hunt is one of the elder statesmen of the sport, and though he has just fought his final fight in the UFC, it seems he’s not ready to call time on his career just yet.

Hunt was already in his mid-30’s when he was reluctantly give a fight by the UFC, who had inherited his contract when they purchased PRIDE.

The story goes that the UFC actually offered to buy out Hunt’s contract rather than have him compete in the Octagon due to the fact that he was on a five-fight losing streak at the time.

However, ‘The Super Samoan’ demanded to be given a chance to prove himself rather than just take the money and run, and he would go on to become a mainstay in the promotion for eight years.

Impressively, Hunt managed to fight his way to an interim title shot at the age of 40, and while he’s experienced mixed fortunes since, as the years have gone on he’s still managed to claim more big-name scalps inside the Octagon, incuding (T)KO victories over the likes of Derrick Lewis, Frank Mir and Antonio Silva.

As such Hunt won’t be short of offers now that he’s a free agent and has indicated that he’d like to fight as many as five times in 2019 before finally calling time on his career.
