No.8: Tito Ortiz

Approaching his 44th birthday, Tito Ortiz continues to be reluctant to fully commit to retirement, and given his recent record it’s not hard to understand why.

After all, though he left the UFC and hung up his gloves after a dismal 1-6-1 losing slump in 2012, he has since experienced a resurgence after being lured back into the cage first by Bellator and more recently by Golden Boy.

Fighting mostly while in his 40’s he’s managed to rack up a 4-1 record during that spell, defeating a string of notable names including former Bellator middleweight champion Alexander Shlemenko, Stephan Bonnar and Chael Sonnen.

Most recently he avenged two prior losses to Chuck Liddell, who at 48-years-old had come out of retirement following an eight year absence and proved just difficult it can be to still compete at that age by suffering a KO loss in the first round.

Given that over the years he’s suffered everything from major disc fusions and replacements in his back and neck, to ACL replacements, a detached retina, and by his own estimation dozens of concussions, it’s somewhat remarkable that he’s still able to compete, and it seems he may not be done yet as he’s recently talked up the possibility of a rematch with Chael Sonnen.
