5. Tim Sylvia
Tim Sylvia is a 2x UFC heavyweight champion and has defended the title on multiple occasions. So, why is he listed as one of the worst UFC Champions of all-time? There are a few reasons.
The first and main reason Tim Sylvia is on this list is for how he fared against boxing champion, Ray Mercer. Sylvia was knocked out in 9 seconds by Mercer in a bout billed as boxing vs MMA. It’s lucky that few MMA fans viewed Sylvia as the sport’s best representative, however.
The second reason Sylvia is on this list is that he failed a drug test and was stripped of the title for his first title defense at UFC 44. He then lost two fights for the interim championship before finally winning the title back at UFC 59. Sylvia defended the title twice before Randy Couture was motivated to come out of retirement at 43 years of age and beat him for it.
