Ronda Rousey
Some fighters legacies can become tarnished due to sticking around to fight long past their prime, but in Ronda Rousey’s case the opposite may be true.
In her prime Rousey was a one-woman wrecking machine, but when the going got tough, suddenly the fire that had burnt so brightly in ‘Rowdy’ appeared to be quickly snuffed out.
After suffering a devastating knockout loss against Holly Holm that showed up huge gaps in her striking ability, Rousey fled from the spotlight and spent the best part of a year in hiding.
When she did finally re-surface for a fight with Amanda Nunes, she was no longer the bold, brash talker she had been before, refusing to be interviewed and Nunes would go on to ruthlessly TKO her in the first round to completely banish any sense of mystique surrounding women’s MMA’s leading lady.
With her back up against the wall, Rousey opted not to stand and fight, instead hang up her gloves to move over the world of pro-wrestling instead, bringing about an unsatisfactory ending to her memorable career.
