Frank Mir

A well respected former heavyweight champion and one of the UFC’s most tenured fighters, Frank Mir could have retired at any time in the latter stages of his career and been considered a legend, but instead he continued to fight on even as defeats started to pile, leaving him with just two wins from his past eight Octagon outings.

Things then got a whole lot worse for Mir after a loss to Mark Hunt in Australia in March of 2016, after which he tested positive for oral turinabol, an anabolic steroid.

Mir frequently protested his innocence, but his theories as to how he had managed to test positive for the performance enhancing drug, which included speculating that it might have come from tainted kangaroo meat, fell on deaf ears and he was subsequently suspended from the sport for two years.

During his time away Mir cited his dissatisfaction with both the UFC and USADA and eventually negotiated his release from the company after 16 years competing in the Octagon.
