‘The Spider’ is no longer fighting this weekend, details here…
Terrible news for fans of former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, as he’s suffered yet another injury setback in the late stages of his glittering career. Originally scheduled to face Uriah Hall at the mega UFC 198 card in Brazil, medical complications have forced ‘The Spider’ out of the fight.
Since losing his long held middleweight title to Chris Weidman at UFC 162, it’s been quite the series of unfortunate events in Silva’s life. In a rematch with ‘The All American’ at UFC 168, Silva suffered one of the most brutal and disgusting injuries in UFC history.
Snapping his leg in the rematch with Weidman was just the start of a run of very bad luck for the Brazilian fighting legend. After a year off of competition, Silva returned to face Nick Diaz at UFC 183 in early 2015, in a fight that he won on the judge’s scorecards.
Turns out he had some illegal substances in his system that January 2015 night, as the victory was overturned to a no-contest when Silva failed a drug test.
After arguing that he had been given some funky viagra from Thailand, Silva was hit with a year’s suspension, and returned with a decision loss to Michael Bisping in February of this year.
All this drama made his return fight against Uriah Hall this weekend so much more enticing. Now we learn of his gruesome illness, and the UFC’s statement can be found on the next page…
