Tom Aspinall has finally admitted the bitter truth about his situation involving Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic. According to the interim heavyweight champ, he was offered to fight Miocic, who unfortunately disagreed with the arrangement. In line with this, the Briton promised to stop his relentless callout to Jones and “stop crying.”
Aspinall started his series of callouts to Jones after winning the interim heavyweight belt via KO win over Sergei Pavlovich. Jones initially showed indifference toward the challenge, but after Aspinall demanded UFC to strip the champ of his belt and give him Miocic, “Bones” started talking back and lambasting the British fighter. In his most recent tirade, the champ criticized Aspinall’s record and reiterated his plan to only plan Miocic before his retirement.
Interestingly, Aspinall disclosed that the promotion actually offered him the chance to fight Miocic, but the veteran reportedly refused to accept it.
“While we are talking about @StipeMiocic, my manager was contacted by the UFC asking if I’d like to fight him on Apr 13th,” Aspinall wrote on X. “I, of course, accepted.
“A little later, we were told @StipeMiocic doesn’t even want to fight me, and (is) only interested in fighting @JonnyBones.”
In line with this and Jones’ continuous refusal to accept his challenge, the 30-year-old has finally given up his hope of facing any of the two iconic UFC fighters in his division. Aside from vowing to stop his callouts, Aspinall also tried to mend his relationship with Jones, whom he praised despite their recent exchanges of barbs.
“On that note. I will stop crying, accept it ain’t gonna happen and enjoy the fight that me and all the other fans want to see,” Aspinall wrote. “Legend vs legend for the heavyweight title. Maximum respect guys. Yay.
“Since me and Jon had our little twitter beef I see Jon’s point of view… Believe it or not I respect @JonnyBones and everything he has done. So impressive. I wish him all the best in his recovery and return against @StipeMiocic.”
