4. Forrest Griffin
Forrest Griffin had the two fights of his life in a row when he defeated Shogun at UFC 76 and then defeated Quinton Jackson for the title at UFC 86.
It’s fair to say that Griffin overachieved when he won the championship, with it perhaps being the case that both Jackson and Shogun had off nights when they lost to him.
Griffin did go 3W-3L after winning the title, losing in his first title defence to Rashad Evans. 2 of those victories were against Tito Ortiz however, and at that stage in Tito’s career those victories mean very little. He eventually retired due to chronic injuries taking their toll.
