2. Chris Weidman Breaks Yoel Romero
Yoel Romero is one of the most disliked guys in the UFC. He actually doesn’t seem like he’s a bad guy, but has perhaps been influenced by a culture of cheating that exists around him. Yoel Romero is one of those fighters you look at, then check their age and say “Yeah, that guy is clearly on steroids.” So when he failed a drug test after his fight with Jacare Souza back at UFC 194 nobody was too shocked. But after providing the tainted supplement which caused his test failure and having his suspension reduced to six months, Romero is right back in the title picture at UFC 205.
Romero is also disliked due to the infamous “Stool-Gate” fight with Tim Kennedy back at UFC 178. This was the bout where Romero stayed on his stool for an extended period of time at the end of the 2nd round after almost being knocked out the previous round. He got some extra rest and then knocked out Kennedy in the next round.
Romero could potentially earn a title shot with a win, though the winner of Souza vs. Rockhold later in the month will have something to say about that. If Souza beats Rockhold, and Romero beats Weidman, Romero should get the next shot on the basis of having beaten Souza at 194. Chris Weidman needs to prevent that from happening.
Watch for the home-state boy to do what Lyoto Machida, Tim Kennedy and Jacare Souza could not, and defeat the jacked up Cuban Brock Lesnar named Yoel Romero.
