What the heck were these guys thinking? Surely these two need educating….

It’s now a well known fact that the UFC likes to carefully, but not very subtly, hype and mould certain fighter’s images and records to enable greater PPV sales. It’s not a unique technique to MMA, or even combat sports overall, yet this doesn’t make it any less obvious or annoying to the experienced viewer.

The goal is clearly to keep the casual viewer interested by enlarging certain draws and ignoring the more ‘average’ fighters in the media. Instead of focusing purely on fighting ability, modern MMA is headed towards ‘TMZ’ status with the constant and droning storylines about ‘the next big thing’ in the sport.

One such fighter that experienced a seemingly never ending version of the UFC hype train was Ronda Rousey.

During her near three year tenure as UFC women’s bantamweight champion, Rousey cemented herself as one of the most promoted fighters of all-time, in any sport. She undoubtedly goes on as the single greatest female MMA star to this date, but experienced a serious humbling like no other at UFC 193.

On November 14 in Melbourne, Australia, ‘Rowdy’ fell to earth with a bang, bringing with her years of UFC hype and outrageous claims by her peers. Holly Holm swung the axe of reality, catching Rousey’s chin with a well placed second round headkick to end the dominant run of the now ex-champ in MMA.

With her first pro loss now in the books, 12-1 Ronda Rousey is already being linked to a rematch with ‘The Preacher’s Daughter,’ however ill-fated or early that fight might be in reality.

Are we over reacting with the barrage of scathing KO memes and band wagon jumpers after Ronda Rousey’s first KO loss?
