Chechen President, Ramzan Kadyrov, has made a challenge most Athletic Commissions would not approve of…

Modern day MMA fights can end via referee stoppage, knockout, submission, or time-limit. Chechen dictator, Ramzan Kadyrov, has recently proposed a 5th way for a fight to end: DEATH. Francis Ngannou nearly won his fight with Alistair Overeem this way at UFC 218.

Kadyrov is a noted MMA fan and played a role in creating the Akhmat Fight Club in 2014 to bring MMA to Chechnya. The organization began running shows the next year. He believes what gives his fighters an advantage over those from other areas is the constant war his people face.

“Yes, I’ve been fighting since I was 15,” Kadyrov relayed to media earlier this year. “I know what war is. I’m an excellent soldier and a good strategist. I love to fight. I was born and raised in war. To die in battle would be my greatest joy.” – Ramzan Kadyrov

Ramzan Kadyrov Human Rights Abuses

In 2009, Kadyrov stated that wives are the property of their husbands and therefore honor killings are perfectly fine. There have also been accusations of his government rounding up and torturing men believed to be homosexual as well.

In an interview he would give to HBO, Kadyrov denied the accusations and stated that there are no homosexuals in his country. He further stated that if there are they should be sent to Canada.

Alexander Emelianenko and Akhmat Fight Club

Fedor Emelianenko’s brother, Alexander, fights for Kadyrov’s Akhmat Fight Club. He is also on parole from a 2015 sexual assault conviction. His first fight since being released from prison last year was at Akhmat 42 in Moscow. Emelianenko knocked out Gerônimo Dos Santos in just 36 seconds.

Emelianenko faces Bellator and Strikeforce veteran, Virgil Zwicker, at Akhmat 44 tomorrow in Grozny, Russia.

Fedor believes his brother has ties to Russian underworld crime families and doesn’t take his training seriously. He recently made the following public statement directed at his brother.

“You hid from everyone that you were in prison for the first time in 18 years, explaining your tattoos are just a hobby. But there are more than a dozen photos with fellow inmates, and the room is clearly not like a tattoo parlor.

During this period, my close people helped you a lot, but you broke all their relations with them and poured mud on them after they left prison, “

Fight to the Death

Kadyrov is proposing that the best fighters from his Akhmat Fight Club take on UFC fighters in a “fight to the death”:

“Sooner or later, I think we will prove we have the best fighters,” Kadyrov told HBO’s David Scott. “We propose that UFC and Akhmat face off in a tournament and we’ll see who has the strongest fighters. I think it would be quite a spectacle. They would fight to the end. A fight to the death.”

Our motto is: ‘Death is better than second place.’ We will bring all your belts from America back to Grozny. – Ramzan Kadyrov”

In addition to “Fights to the Death”, Kadyrov is also a fan of young children participating in MMA. Kadyrov organized an MMA tournament for children under 12 years-old in October 2016, with all 3 of his children competing at the event.

Fedor Emelianenko, head of the Russian MMA Union, was said to be furious. The tournament was even shown on live television. Russian MMA rules insist fighters under 21 wear protective gear (the children did not) and that no person under the age of 12 is permitted to compete at all.
