Frankie Edgar has fought in 7 UFC title fights, and he could get his 8th at UFC 200.
Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar has been asking for a title shot against Conor McGregor since December, and judging by comments from the UFC brass, that may finally happen at UFC 200. UFC President Dana White said recently that McGregor-Edgar is the fight that fans want to see. Add Joe Rogan to the list of people that want to see that fight. He had this to say on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast. H/T MMAFighting.com for the quotes.
“Frankie Edgar is a way easier sell. If Aldo comes back and wins in spectacular fashion… He has to win again. You can sell it (Aldo-McGregor 2), but it wouldn’t sell for as much as if Aldo won.”
Rogan’s take on the match up:
“Frankie Edgar is a 48-hour storm, you better have everything strapped down. He is not going to get tired and he is going to keep coming at you.” Said Rogan, “Conor can knock out anybody, but so can Cub Swanson, and he didn’t connect on Frankie. Frankie just wolverine’d him.” Watch the video below to hear more input from Brendan Schaub and Bryan Callen.

Edgar last fought on December 11, in a first round knockout win against Chad Mendes. Conor McGregor lost by submission in his welterweight debut against Nate Diaz at UFC 196. McGregor has said that his next fight will be a featherweight title defense, and that he wants to fight again as soon as possible. The UFC would undoubtedly like to have a superstar like McGregor as the headliner for UFC 200, which is expected to be a blockbuster event featuring multiple title fights. With both Frankie Edgar and the fans pining for this fight, we should expect an official announcement very soon.
Few announcements have been made for UFC 200, and many rumors of possible matchups including Lawler vs. Condit 2, Rousey vs. Holm 2, and the return of former Welterweight Champ Georges St. Pierre.
