Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones is no stranger to setbacks. He is virtually undefeated inside the Octagon sans one DQ loss. Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey got knocked out last weekend. And Jones had some encouraging words for the female star.
Rousey was brutally stopped in 48-seconds by current UFC champion Amanda Nunes. A series of power shots to Rousey’s head earned Nunes a standing-TKO. Hours after UFC 207, Jones took to Twitter to talk about Rousey’s loss.
Jon Jones Talks About Ronda Rousey And What She Should Do
Jones has had his fair share of setbacks in the sport of MMA. Although he is probably the most dominant fighter in history, he could never keep things together outside the cage. Jones has had multiple run-ins with the law and failed USADA drug tests. It has kept him largely irrelevant in the past few years.
Bones’ most recent setback came when he was scheduled to face UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier in mid-2016. Jones was caught with banned substances in his system and was forced to pull out of the main event.
He is currently serving his suspension now and expects to return this year.
My advice to Ronda would be to pick yourself up and try again.

I believe Rousey will be a champion for the rest of her life, even if she never wins another fight

I think it's important for Ronda to show her fans how great she truly is by displaying her courage and giving it another try.

What she does next will truly determine her legacy. I really hope she chooses to be a unbroken. Her story doesn't have to be over here

Maybe she just needs to complement her coach with an MMA family. Maybe she should join one of the bigger MMA teams

Being around other bad asses and constantly sharing your spotlight could be good for you and so many ways. They can improve on your humility
— BONY (@JonnyBones) December 31, 2016
Constantly being humbled is never a bad thing in a sport like this

Yet Jones continue to soldier on, working away from the UFC until he makes his way back to the Octagon.
Rousey on the other hand was thoroughly dominated in late 2015 by Holly Holm. She spent a year away from the limelight working on her game only to get stopped by Nunes. Now, many fans and observers are unsure of Rousey’s future in the sport.
Ronda Rousey Can Still Make A Comeback, If She’s Willing
At the very least, Jones thinks Rousey should continue in climbing back up the ladder.
In all honesty, Jones does have a point. Rousey is obviously talented enough to remain a force in the division. A rematch with Nunes would make much more sense if she is able to get a few wins under her belt. If Rousey is able to rediscover her championship form, she can take her throne back as the UFC’s top female talent.
This all happens only if Rousey is willing however, and there is no indication yet if she is. Rousey could very well head off into retirement.
