Khabib Nurmagamedov Has Gone in Hard on Dana White’s Special Treatment of Conor McGregor…

Conor McGregor gets special treatment from the UFC. Of course, he does, and it’s no wonder. His single fight in 2017, when he crossed codes to boxing against Floyd Mayweather, earned more for the UFC than all their pay-per-view MMA cards combined. And they were just co-promoters.

Is it moral and fair? You could argue both ways. Many fighters are understandably frustrated that the UFC – and especially the company president Dana White – don’t give them the same push. The number of fighters that criticized the company after McGregor’s bus attack was huge.

Now Khabib Nurmagamedov has told White that he needs to be consistent in how he treats fighters. Yeah right. Expect that to go in one ear and out the other. McGregor can do what he wants because the UFC doesn’t know how long he’s going to be around, so they’re going to milk it as long as they can.

Not Impressed

Khabib was understandably rattled after The Notorious rocked up to their press conference with two belts slung over his shoulders. McGregor was stripped of both titles due to inactivity. The Russian fighter condemned White for fueling a false narrative. He told assembled media:

“Dana needs to stop to kissing his ass. That’s what Dana needs. That’s it. How Dana can say, ‘Hey, where is Conor belts?’ He don’t know what happened the last two years?”

Bigger Picture

While Khabib definitely has a point and is speaking from the moral high ground, he’s not looking at the bigger picture. McGregor is the UFC’s only superstar. If you ask your mother if they’ve heard of Khabib Nurmagamedov, she’ll probably ask if it’s contagious. Dedicated MMA fans know, love, and respect the Dagestani, but the only mainstream recognition he has is because of McGregor.

That’s why Dana White has been gushing about the enigmatic Irishman. While it remains to be seen whether or not it will break the record for PPV sales, it will definitely do well and that’s mostly thanks to the theatrics of McGregor and the excitement of his return after two years out of the cage.

Big Draw

McGregor is a draw. It’s as simple as that. Casual fans are assembling in their droves, ready to become MMA experts for the weekend. While he’s fighting – and let’s not forget it might not be much longer – we need to enjoy the occasion. Khabib said:

“Of course they want him to win. But with me, I feel UFC is happy too, because I have big name, too. But right now, I don’t know about all the people in UFC, but, some people want him to win because he has big name and they can make a lot of money.”

At the end of the day, Khabib is the beneficiary of a red panty night. For all his criticism and condemnation, it’s important to remember that he’ll make more from this fight than from his entire career up to this point. That’s a fact. He won’t get that from fighting any other opponent in the UFC. This is what McGregor brings, and why Dana White will continue to kiss his ass.
