Michael Chandler doesn’t like Conor McGregor’s faceoff with Petr Yan in Dubai during an IBF boxing event. For the “Iron,” the move is just a mere attempt of “The Notorious” to remain relevant as the certainty of their fight date remains murky.
McGregor is expected to return to MMA in 2024, with many fighters already voicing their intention to welcome back the former two-division king in the cage. Nonetheless, of all the names being mentioned everywhere, Chandler is the one making the biggest noise.
The two took the role of coaches on The Ultimate Fighter, leading many to expect that there would be a fight between them at the end of the season. This, however, didn’t materialize, but the buzz about the bout of the two continues to this day.
Despite having his last UFC bout for more than a year now, Chandler promised to wait for McGregor’s return just to have the fight with the Irish star. However, as the wait continues, Chandler finds McGregor’s actions and appearances in various events unfavorable.
Last weekend, McGregor attended an IBF boxing event in Dubai, where Islam Makhachev and Yan were also present. And just like his past appearances at BKFC 41 2023, where he had a faceoff with Mike Perry, McGregor was also seen doing the same thing with Yan again. Needless to say, Chandler didn’t like any bit of it as the details of their fight remain uncertain.
“Looking for a 135er or preferably a 125er to face off with, on camera, at an obscure event…any takers?” Chandler posted on X in response to the faceoff of Yan and McGregor. “I need relevancy…”
There are no other contexts for the comment, but many believe it reflects the fighter’s exasperation over the uncertainty of McGregor’s return as Iron reaches the 13th month of his UFC absence. Unfortunately, while rumors and hints about McGregor relentlessly sprout, the exact date of that bout and whether Chandler will be the one facing the Irish remains unclear.
