Randy-Couture-vs-James-Toney-foxsports

4. James Toney

Nobody, including Dana White, can figure out why the UFC gave James Toney a chance at UFC 118 against Randy Couture.  Toney had been making public statements that he could beat any MMA fighter in an MMA bout publicly and it irritated Dana White is the leading theory.

While other boxers have made this claim before the UFC has generally just ignored them, but for some reason that was not the case with Toney.

White signed Toney to a multi-fight deal, but then released him pretty much immediately after Randy Couture made him look silly at UFC 118, taking him down with ease and choking him out in just over 3 minutes.

Toney went back to boxing after that, and never again tried his hand at MMA.
