All in all, it’s a good time to be Nate Diaz. It’s highly likely that he will fight one of Conor McGregor or Jorge Masvidal next in a big-money clash. Will he win that fight? Who knows. However, the Stockton fighter is still a major draw at this late stage of his UFC career.

Diaz and McGregor go all the way back to 2016. After Rafael Dos Anjos injured himself, Diaz stepped in as a late replacement for the Brazilian. He stunned the world by submitting McGregor in the second round of their clash. Then ‘The Notorious’ got revenge in a close decision win a few months later.

The talk of a trilogy continues to burn. But it has never really taken off. In short, McGregor has taken advantage of other more lucrative options. Now might be the time because neither man has a fight booked. Also, they’re back at it again on Twitter.

Shut Up

McGregor is notorious for tweeting and deleting. Diaz commented that Alex Volkanovski’s win over Max Holloway at UFC: Fight Island was a robbery. In sum, the Irishman disagreed. He made that very clear in a reply which he later deleted. Unfortunately, the internet never forgets. You can see his message to Diaz above. Quite simply, he wrote:

“Shut your b**chass up.”

The Irishman wrote the message late at night so maybe he had drunk a few sips of his whiskey. So far Diaz hasn’t bothered to reply to him. We don’t blame him.

Next Year

Earlier this week, Dana White spoke about McGregor’s potential return. He ‘retired’ but that’s not real. He’s pulled this same trick multiple times before. In all likelihood, he is waiting to see who wins out of Khabib Nurmagamedov v Justin Gaethje before making a power move.

White says that he expects McGregor back in 2021. This makes sense as Khabib will not fight until later in the year – if he returns at all after the tragic death of his father. That has totally changed everything.

Moneymaker

White explained that McGregor has a lot of money but only has a few fights left. In sum, he probably wants to maximize the opportunities he has left. That is why he will probably fight again. The big question is who will be his opponent. His team thinks that he will beat Gaethje. But do they really want the Khabib rematch?

“There’s no doubt that Conor McGregor’s one of the best in the world,” White said. “What’s going on with Conor McGregor is what goes on with all professional fighters when they become extremely wealthy and Conor McGregor is rich.

“He gets to pick and choose what he wants to do now and he’s at that point in his career where he’s got a few fights left. As of right now, he’s retired. I wouldn’t be surprised if he came out and wanted to fight somebody next year after all these different fights play out.”
