Brandon Royval still has faith that he’ll soon be allowed to challenge Alexandre Pantoja for the flyweight belt again. For the fighter, the chance leading to that will only happen if he wins his upcoming rematch against Brandon Moreno at UFC Mexico City.
“Raw Dawg” will be returning to the cage after a failed title shot bout against Pantoja at UFC 296 last December. The fighter was able to make a quick turnaround after replacing Amir Albazi to face Moreno this weekend. And while “The Assassin Baby” is not exactly excited about meeting the fighter whom he has already defeated before, Royval knows that the match is a much-needed one for him.
“I’m really glad they gave me this fight,” Royval shared during the UFC Fight Night 237 media day. “I’m glad I got this opportunity because I definitely needed this. I definitely needed something to motivate me to get the sour taste out of my mouth and get me back out of my funk.”
A win could further cement Moreno’s flyweight title shot in the future, and Royval supports the idea. As for him, a bounceback victory could also lead to that way. The fighter is not sure about this, but he believes that if he can impress the promotion this weekend, he might be given another shot.
“I’m actually not sure what happens with me,” Royval said. “I’m pretty sure Brandon Moreno, if he wins, even though we both lost to the same person in our last loss, I’m pretty sure he’s getting a title shot. I’m not sure that’s the same position for me. I know if I go out there and style on him and I go out there and do some cool things, it’s going to be hard to be denied.
