5. Shortest UFC Lightweight Title Reign in History

Much like Tyron Woodley has a chance to set the record for shortest welterweight reign, Eddie Alvarez has a chance to do the same in the lightweight division.

Alvarez has an additional opportunity: to become the first ever lightweight champion never to successfully defend the belt. This is a division that has had numerous lengthy title reigns, which would make a short reign by Alvarez record-breaking by a wide margin.

At the moment the shortest lightweight title reign in UFC history is 393 days and 2 title defences by the inaugural champion Jens Pulver. The title was declared vacant on March 23rd 2002 when Pulver and the UFC couldn’t agree on a contract. No lightweight champion has ever held the title for less than a year.

Should Conor take the title from Eddie this weekend, Alvarez’s title reign would conclude after just 128 days and no title defences.
