3. Gilbert Yvel
Gilbert Yvel was once DQ’ed in a fight in Finland for KO’ing the referee. That is the official result listed in any database that tracks fighter statistics: “DQ- KO’ed the referee”. The whole thing took an entire 35 seconds of the 1st round to occur.
Yvel and his opponent were clinching near the ropes and the referee made repeated attempts to try to re position the fighters. Yvel then decided to KO the ref and give him a soccer kick while he was down. It’s unclear if soccer kicks to a grounded opponent were legal or not in this promotion, but it was definitely illegal to hit the ref with one.
He also repeatedly raked the face and eyes of Don Frye to avoid grappling with him during their bout in 2001.
So yeah, Yvel does not like to grapple.
In 1998, about one year after Tyson bit Holyfield’s ear, Yvel decided it looked like fun and was DQ’ed for biting his opponent Karimula Barkalaev.
