1. Rousimar Palhares
Palhares has been frequently accused of being a touch late to release submission holds after a tap out.
-He had to have his heel hook on Mike Pierce pried off well after the tap and stoppage in his UFC debut
– Against Dan Miller at UFC 134, Palhares started celebrating early, believing he had just finished Miller, only for the ref to have to explain that the fight was still going. In the re-started fight Palhares landed 2 blows after the buzzer ended round one.
– There have been numerous reports of Palhares not relinquishing submission holds in grappling contests as well.
Then at World Series of Fighting 22 Palhares was matched up against Jake Shields. Romero again refused to relinquish his kimura after the fight ended, and Shields would complain about several eye pokes during the bout as well.
The incident was the last straw for many with Palhares, and definitely in the eyes of the WSOF executives. Palhares was stripped of the promotion’s welterweight championship, and the Nevada State Athletic Commission banned him for 2 years and fined him $40,000.
