4. Brandon Vera vs Randy Couture UFC 105
The decision in this fight came down to the ever-subjective “octagon control” judging criteria. The judge’s evidently felt that when Couture was controlling Vera along the cage that he was “controlling the fight” even though he wasn’t causing any damage.
At no point did Couture ever do damage to Vera, and in the 2nd round Vera scored a big knock down on Couture. Vera easily won the 2nd and to most it appeared as though he won the 1st as well, seeing as he was the only fighter to really land any significant strikes. A win over a legend like Couture would have done amazing things for Vera, but instead he followed a disappointing loss to a legend with a deflating 1st round KO loss to future legend Jon Jones.
Late last year Brandon Vera won the inaugural ONE Heavyweight Championship, so he’s got that going for him.
