6. “Filthy” Tom Lawlor vs Corey Anderson UFC 196
When discussing the results of fights at UFC 196, few MMA fans choose to talk about the results of the Tom Lawlor vs. Corey Anderson fight. It tends to have been mildly over-shadowed by some of the night’s other proceedings.
Lawlor almost finished Anderson in the opening minute of this fight, and most had assumed he won that round. While Anderson came back to be competitive in the 1st, at no point did he come close to inflicting the damage on Lawlor that Lawlor gave to him early in the round. Despite this 2 of the 3 judge’s absolutely inexplicably awarded all 3 rounds, including the first, to Anderson. The second two rounds were close, but many scored round 2 for Lawlor as well. Heading into the 3rd round there couldn’t have been anybody who would have thought Lawlor needed to end the fight to get the win, but evidently that is what he needed to do!
Oddly enough Corey Anderson moved on to face Shogun Rua at UFC 198, where he lost a decision to Shogun Rua despite him appearing to have gotten the better of the former UFC light heavyweight champion.
Lawlor hasn’t fought since, but has a regular radio show with Bryan Alvarez talking MMA and pro wrestling. He really likes Kane.
