One of the original pioneers of MMA, you’ve got to love Carlos Newton. A former UFC welterweight champion, he’s also one of just a few athletes who competed in the UFC and PRIDE at the same time. You might think that this 30-fight professional fighter was just a meathead, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Newton is a smart guy. Very, very smart. He studied geriatric medicine at York University in Toronto, having researched at Baycrest Hospital, one of the world’s leading facilities in geriatric care. Now though he’s working in the field of architecture and managing his own MMA gym. What a boss.
