2. Yoel Romero is the Top Underdog (+140)

Betting odds are only available for a a few fights at UFC 205 so far, and the only underdog at the moment worth considering is Yoel Romero. At +140 he’s not much of an underdog, but he’s a smart pick.

That may seem like a bold statement to make considering how good Chris Weidman is. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that Weidman had been having a flawless MMA career before Luke Rockhold took his title from him. But Yoel Romero is possibly the most underrated fighter in the middleweight division right now.

Romero and Weidman have one common opponent, so we get to play MMA math again. Their common opponent is former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. Weidman successfully defended the middleweight title against Machida at UFC 175, earning a unanimous decision victory. Romero fought Machida at UFC Fight Night 70 and KO’d him in the 3rd round via elbows. MMA math is inconclusive on this one since they both beat Machida, but you can argue that Romero finishing him is the more impressive result.

The other important point to remember regarding this fight is that if Romero wins but fails a post-fight drug test (as he did last time) you still keep your winnings!
