8. Matt Hughes vs Renzo Gracie UFC 112 (20 seconds left)
In 2010 a 43-year old Renzo Gracie signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC. His first task? A bout with Matt Hughes, the former UFC welterweight champion.
For Hughes this fight was coming at a pivotal period in his career. He had already been considered the best in the world, but then a guy named Georges St. Pierre came along, took his title, and then beat him in the rematch as well. After losing the rematch to GSP he then was knocked out by an up and coming Thiago Alves. This was a chance for him to relive his time on top by beating another Gracie, just as he had done to Royce at UFC 61.
For Renzo it was a chance to win one back for his family name. Unfortunately for Gracie he was perhaps too old to be competing at this level. By the 3rd round Hughes had started to get the advantage, and with 20 seconds to go Hughes not only ended the fight, but Renzo’s MMA career as well.
