You know Sea Level Cain Is In There…

It is ingrained in the culture of most combat sports that fighters should have a nickname. In most cases fighter nicknames are either their own choosing, or given to them by their training partners.

Different cultures have a different attitude towards nicknames as well. In many english speaking cultures, a nickname is supposed to basically sound as badass as possible. That isn’t really the same approach towards nicknames that is taken by many Brazilian fighters.

Sometimes Brazilian fighter nicknames are much more humour based. Ronato “Babalu” Sobral for instance, his nickname is just based on a brand of gum sold in Brazil. The nickname Cole Miller’s teammates gave him “Magrinho”, is just a way to call someone skinny.

What is much more fun however is when the fans give a fighter a nickname that sticks organically, like the six nicknames on this list…

6. “TRT Vitor”- Vitor Belfort

Vitor Belfort recently retired and then un-retired all within a span of a few hours. The entire thing took place on Instagram. So while non-TRT Vitor’s career is still plucking away, TRT-Vitor is probably gone for good.

Vitor Belfort is one of many fighters that received a “Testosterone Replacement Therapy” exemption, allowing him to take testosterone without being penalized by an athletic commission.

“TRT- Vitor” was as ripped and chiselled as a fighter could, allowing him to almost rip Jon Jones’ arm off at UFC 152.
