5. “Sea-Level Cain”- Cain Velasquez
“Sea-Level Cain” is a reference to the poor performance Cain Velasquez had at UFC 188 in Mexico City.
Mexico City is at high elevation, and many fighters that night were unable to adjust to the change in altitude. Dana White would say that UFC 188 broke records in terms of fighters vomiting inside and outside of the cage.
Unfortunately for Cain Velasquez, and the legacy he hopes to leave as one of the sport’s greatest heavyweights, the elevation contributed to his losing the HW title for the 2nd time. Cain just never seemed to get out of the gate, and one of the other fighters in the conversation for greatest heavyweight of all time, Fabricio Werdum, was able to win the belt.
So when people ask who will win between Werdum and “Sea Level Cain” they are asking if Cain can beat Werdum in a fight at normal altitude.
