1. Rousimir Palhares

If Rousimir Palhares has you in a submission hold don’t bother to tap, you’ll lose the fight and he still won’t let go. Ask Jake Shields or Mike Pierce, they’ll tell you.

Palhares was released from the UFC in 2013 for failing to let go of a heel hook after the ref stepped in. The UFC had suspended him for 90 days in 2010 for doing the exact same thing. He’d also failed a drug test in 2012, so the UFC decided to just get rid of him.

He signed with WSOF and immediately won their welterweight championship. He successfully defended the belt once against Jon Fitch, and then again against Jake Shields in 2015. Palhares once more held a submission on after the ref stepped in in his title defence against Shields. The Nevada State Athletic Commission suspended him two years. Palhares has opted to fight in Europe to avoid his suspension however, dropping two fights in 2016.
