7. Cain Velasquez vs. Alistair Overeem
At UFC 203 next weekend, current UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic defends the title against Alistair Overeem. If Overeem can defeat Miocic that might very well set up an Overeem vs Cain Velasquez fight in Amerstam in 2017.
For Velasquez, he looked amazing against Travis Browne in his last fight, but he may have to get by Werdum before being given a shot to win the UFC heavyweight championship for a record 3rd time. Werdum is facing Travis Browne at UFC 203, so how well he does against Browne might determine who, between he and Cain, gets the next crack at the winner of Miocic vs Overeem.
If the stars align we could see Overeem, the guy who many assumed would have already had a reign as UFC heavyweight champ by now, and Cain Velasquez, who many say would be the greatest heavyweight of all time if he could just stay healthy.
There’s a good chance that we see this fight in 2017, its just a matter of whether or not its for the title.
