Madness in the world of mixed martial arts is not uncommon, in fact it’s one of the main reason people love to follow the sport. The unpredictability that belies MMA is part of the growing attraction that’s helping it become mainstream.
That said, there’s a certain amount of predictability, a somewhat sinister side to the sport, and it always involves money. Of course any sports promoter in their right mind will tell you focusing on big earners is key, but where’s the line?
The UFC has notoriously funnelled millions of dollars in to promoting fighters like Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey. Both have suffered rather disappointing losses in their most recent bouts.
The former women’s bantamweight champion fell off the map to a certain extent, but ‘The Notorious’ remains in public interest. The media has been all over McGregor’s recent rumours of a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather.
So what’s the obsession with this young Irishman? Well part of it is his backstory, coming from rags to riches is something many people can admire. Another big part is his entertaining style and trash talk, and also the amount of well placed promotion by the UFC.
But one article the UFC published today has enraged fans of the sport beyond belief…
