An Incredible Action-Packed Fight Saw Two Fighters Go Down After a Double Knockdown… Only One Could Get Back Up and Win… Even if he was left With a Horrific Broken Nose…
There aren’t many moments in combat sports more entertaining than a double knockdown. The drama and excitement as both men or women struggle to get back to their feet, knowing that if they can just pull themselves together and shake off the cobwebs for a few seconds, they could walk away as a winner.
It used to be the case that double knockdowns were rare, but they seem to happen more and more frequently. We saw one in Fedor Emelianenko’s loss to former UFC fighter Matt Mitrione. Both men are now in Bellator’s heavyweight grand prix. In Pro Muay Thai, Ramon Dekkers and Ray Simson also had a Double Knockdown.
Some of the best happen in the regional game. They tend not to happen so often at the highest levels, because the fighters are obviously technically more developed. When two men go charging forward, then you know what could happen next.
Collision
In the video above you can see what is just a massive collision between two exciting MMA fighters. It happened at Shamrock FC 285 in 2017, at the Ameristar Casino in Kansas City, Missouri, but like all the best footage took its time to go viral. Now it’s out there and it’s absolutely glorious.
Amateur fighters Axel Cazares and Alan Vasquez clashed in a short but brutal fight. The two men loaded up with massive punches and landed with a sweet connection.
Severe Damage
Both men were instantly stunned. Cazares was left stuck against the cage and looked like he might be able to stay on his feet but no, it just wasn’t to be.
Meanwhile, Vasquez was visibly battered. He had taken a punch straight to the nose and it was left broken and bloody. As you can see from the image above, he definitely wasn’t going to be a model anytime soon after that.
However, he was able to just about get to his feet while Cazares stumbled to his knees. The referee stopped the fight leaving Vazquez beat-up and punished, but victorious. It’s truly a case of ‘you should see what happened to the other guy.’ His nose might not be meant to look like that, but you can bet he thought it was worth it for the win.
Picture Perfect?
One of the best ever double knockdowns for sheer perfection in terms of drama and suspense is the one above from a professional Muay Thai match. Former UFC fighter Dorian Price fought Jonathan Lecat in 2016. An Ultimate fighter contestant, Price dropped out of MMA competition to move to Thailand and pursue his true love: Muay Thai.
In the video above he clashes with Lecat. The two men connect at the exact same time. Price lands with a punch, while Lecat drops a savage elbow. Both men drop to the floor like sacks of cement and the commentators go absolutely crazy.
Only one man is able to get back to his feet and this time its Price who is just about able to do enough for the victory. It’s almost like it’s inspired by Rocky. There’s just nothing like a double knockdown for excitement in one moment.
