4. Rory MacDonald vs Robbie Lawler UFC 189
Rory MacDonald is an absolute savage of a man. Same goes for Lawler. This was a blood fest with neither guy backing down at all. Heading into the 5th round MacDonald might have been ahead, or he may have needed that round, but either way he had a good shot at coming out of the bout with the welterweight championship. But then Robbie literally broke his face.
Watching MacDonald cover his face and go down after Lawler had pummelled his face one too many times is gut-wrenching to watch. You can only imagine the mind-body conflict going on inside him, knowing how close he is to the championship. At some point your body just won’t let you push forward anymore.
Photos that these two would share in the hospital afterwards are the stuff of legends. This fight would win fight of the year, and many view it as one of the greatest of all time.
