2018 has started very similarly to 2017 in combat sports. Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor are teasing a fight against each other that nobody thinks will happen. As time goes on, it’s looking more and more likely…
The run-up to Agust 26, 2017 was quite the circus. ‘Maymac,’ as it was dubbed, featured the best pound-for-pound boxer of this era against the UFC lightweight champion in an unlikely boxing bout.
Although from two different sports, Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather had managed to cook up a storm around their fight. As it turned out, it was more of a sparring session with Mayweather being the seasoned veteran.
For all the talk of his mighty left hand and ‘MMA angles,’ McGregor was unable to get the job done. In reality, even many of McGregor’s supporters themselves knew deep down he wouldn’t beat ‘Money.’
But, they said, Mayweather would get squashed if he came to the UFC.

Mayweather to The UFC
So began a new period of trash talk and teasing by Mayweather. The now-retired again boxer released some videos of himself in an MMA cage, ‘MMA in 2018’ was his slogan. The combat sports world waited in preparation for the announcement of another silly crossover.
According to UFC president Dana |White, the rematch needs to happen. Unlike the first fight, White claims ‘Money’ has to come over to the UFC now and test his chops in the deep and murky MMA waters.
Here’s what the baldfather told UFC Tonight hosts Michael Bisping and Kenny Florian:

“We Boxed Floyd”
“Floyd said leading up to the fight with Conor that he would do both, so we’ll see what happens. The only way making that fight again makes any sense is if he comes into the Octagon.”
“We went over and boxed him, the UFC and Conor McGregor. Now it’s time for him reciprocate and come fight in the Octagon.”
While on the show, the UFC president also claimed his promotion’s welterweight champion was ‘full of sh*t.’ According to White, Woodley has been making up lies about Nate Diaz and his reported welterweight title fight:

“That fight was never made. You couldn’t be more wrong. He couldn’t be more full of s-t. It’s absolutely not true. It’s so not true, that our lawyer actually hit him up today, hit his manager up and said he needs to stop saying these kind of things, because it’s absolutely not true.”
“I wouldn’t bet a nickel on it, let alone Woodley’s house. It’s not true,” said White. “It’s completely not true, and we’re looking at dos Anjos. Dos Anjos is the fight we’re looking at for Woodley. That’s the fight that’s a fair fight. He just won a great fight against Robbie Lawler; he looked good. And what I love about that fight is I think dos Anjos will bring it. He will come after Tyron Woodley, and it will be a great fight. That’s the fight that’s going to happen.”
