Top Five Worst Nicknames In UFC History

0

MMA fighters are really tough guys. If you’ve ever come across an MMA fighter, you get the instant sense that it would probably only take them about 3.68 seconds to end your life. They are vastly skilled martial artists after all, who have been trained in combat pretty much their entire lives.

But sometimes, you just can’t tell by their names — or their nicknames to be exact.

Here are the Top Five Worst Nicknames in UFC History.

Steve Montgomery has one of the worst nicknames in the UFC -- in all sports for that matter. No, in life. Gotta love that mullet though.
Steve Montgomery has one of the worst nicknames in the UFC — in all sports for that matter. No, in life. Gotta love that mullet though.

Steve “The Creepy Weasel” Montgomery

A former The Ultimate Fighter alumn, Montgomery is well-known for the seizure he suffered on the show than his stint as a professional mixed martial artist in the UFC. Now, he is known simply for his fugly moniker.

Ok now ask yourself this, why would anyone in the world want to be associated with being a weasel, regardless of profession? It just doesn’t make sense in any situation. Weasels are known as filthy, sneaky, and untrustworthy creatures. Calling someone a weasel is usually an insult.

Yet Montgomery doesn’t stop there, he adds the word ‘creepy’ to describe what kind of weasel he is, rounding out the masterpiece: “The Creepy Weasel”

I guess Montgomery’s aim was to scare his opponents before they locked horns, threatening them with some sort of underhanded sexual advance and a shady decision loss — because that’s the kind of feeling ‘The Creepy Weasel’ gives off.

Oh, and to top things off, the guy once sported a mullet in The Octagon — A MULLET!

WATCH: Nick Diaz Bare Knuckle MMA Fight

0

When the Gracie’s brought Vale Tudo fighting to the United States and helped create the Ultimate Fighting Championships the fights were all bare-knuckled.

The UFC’s bare-knuckled era wouldn’t last long, but vale tudo fights continued to happen around the world.  In this video we will see Nick Diaz taking part in a bare knuckled Vale Tudo fight in what is believed to be from 2002, long after UFC fighters had put gloves on their fists.

<> attends the UFC 143 final pre-fight press conference at the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino on February 2, 2012 in Las Vegas, United States.

Nick, along with brother Nate, are long time members of the Cesar Gracie camp in California, and have most likely been ingrained with a deep respect for vale tudo fighting, which more closely resembles a real fight.

Nick Diaz’s suspension is up, but a fight for the former Strikeforce Welterweight Champion still has not been scheduled. The new UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley wants to see that changed, he wants to face Diaz at UFC 202 for the championship.

Woodley of course is looking for some fights that will earn him big money rather than a fight that would solidify himself as the best in the world (that fight is against Stephen Thompson).

Nick Diaz, mainly due to the lengthy suspension he received a little over 18 months ago, has fought sparingly for the last few years.  Nick has fought only 3 times since 2012, having lost all 3 of those fights (though his loss to Anderson Silva was overturned to a NC).

Conor McGregor Challenges Entire WWE Roster To Fight Him

0

One of the biggest reasons combat sports stars have become mainstream personalities is their ability to cross over into pop culture.

Guesting on late night shows like Conan, or Jimmy Kimmel Live are a couple of examples. Another great example is a cameo appearance at the WWE, which has its own rabid fan base.

Fighters like Floyd Mayweather Jr., Mike Tyson, Ronda Rousey and Brock Lesnar have all had their stints in the WWE (although Lesnar is different because he came from the WWE, but regardless, the crossover into MMA is there) and these fighters all became superstars.

Combat sports athletes crossing over into the WWE is usually a good thing. Don't count on McGregor in the WWE anytime soon, though.

But if Conor McGregor’s recent comments about the WWE hold any weight, don’t expect to see him in a cameo anytime soon.

“For the most part, those WWE guys are pussies to be honest,” said McGregor. “They’re messed up pussies, if you ask me. Fair play to Brock [Lesnar], he got in and fought, but at the end of the day he was juiced up to the fucking eye balls, so how can I respect that? And then what’s the other guy? The other guy hasn’t fought yet, so I don’t know about him yet.”

Top Five Diaz vs McGregor Viral Moments

0

UFC 202 is less than 3 weeks away, and barring any last-minute injury we are going to see a rematch of possibly the most talked about fight in UFC’s history.

The MMA world went into an all-out state of frenzy after Nate choked out Conor at UFC 196, with some fans simply not able to think or talk about anything else for days after it happened.

What we didn’t know then was that UFC 196 was just the end to the first chapter of this story; the second chapter being written at UFC 202.

Should Nate win for a second straight time that will probably end the rivalry.  A 2nd loss for Conor would mean a renewed focus on his Featherweight title and a rematch with Jose Aldo. It would also most likely mean a significant blow to his drawing power.

A win for Conor could re-ignite “the Conor McGregor show” as it was to be written before Nate Diaz sent it spiralling into cancellation.

With just 18 more sleeps to go until Conor vs. Nate 2, it seems fitting to run down the top 5 viral moments of their rivalry thus far.

Joe Rogan: The UFC Has This Little White Irish Leprechaun

The eagerly anticipated rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz is just 13 days away now. The first time these two met was on March 5, and the result was one of the craziest moments in MMA history.

The two trash talking kings collided after a short but eventful rivalry, but many predicted McGregor would have an easy night. The truth was about as fr from that statement as possible, as Diaz scored the underdog victory of 2016.

After stunning the featherweight champion and handing him the first loss under the UFC banner, Nate Diaz gave a classic post fight interview. Joe Rogan was in stitches as Diaz declared ‘I’m not surprised motherfuckers!’

On August 20 they’ll do it all over again, and shockingly at welterweight as demanded by McGregor. So many have chimed in with their predictions for the second fight, believing that a potential third fight will happen if the Irishman wins.

Few get as close up to the UFC’s biggest stars as color commentator Joe Rogan. The unique style of fight calling that Rogan gives is second only to his hilarious podcasts with Brendan Schaub and Bryan Callen.

Gabi Garcia Hitting Pads Is The Scariest Thing You’ll Ever See

0

Many fans of combat sports regard the heavyweight division as the most entertaining. Especially in terms of boxing, the prospect of two Goliath type athletes squaring off is an exciting one.

With mixed martial arts though, perhaps the featherweight to middleweight categories are currently the most focused on. Stars like Conor McGregor, Nate Diaz, Ronda Rousey and many others have steadily taken the focus off the bigger fighters.

Gabi-MMA-2016

But what MMA does have in the heavyweight division right now is Gabi Garcia. She is one of the most daunting figures you’ll ever see. Standing nearly two metres tall and weighing a whopping 108 kilograms, Garcia is a multiple world champion in BJJ and also a pro MMA fighter.

Garcia has fought twice under the Japanese promotion Rizin Fighting Federation, but now she’s having trouble finding an opponent.

Four MMA Fighters Who Nearly Died After Fights

0

There have been four cases of fatalities resulting from injuries sustained in sanctioned MMA bouts, and another 9 that have occurred in unsanctioned bouts. Joao Carvalho, the fighter who died as a result of a bout in Ireland recently, counts as a fatality from an unsanctioned bout, as Ireland only resolved to regulate MMA after his death.

Mixed martial arts is a dangerous sport, not as dangerous as some others, but still quite dangerous. It’s actually amazing to think that so few athletes have died.

While the death toll is still not creeping towards alarming numbers, there have been several close calls. If just one of the names on this list died as a result of their injuries it could have had a drastic impact on the sport as we know it.

Here are 4 cases of fighters who nearly died after an MMA fight…

Five Reasons Michael Bisping Will KO Dan Henderson at UFC 204

0

At UFC 100 Dan Henderson defeated Michael Bisping with one of the most conclusive finishes to a fight in UFC history. Now at UFC 204 they will meet again, this time with the UFC Middleweight Championship on the line. Since Hendo will be retiring afterwards, this fight represents an opportunity for him to end his career as a champion.

Whether you agree with the UFC’s decision to award Henderson a title shot or not, you have to admit that Henderson vs. Bisping 2 is a fight that has a lot of intrigue. Jacare Souza might not be too enthused about this fight, but lots of other people are really looking forward to it.

The result at UFC 204 will be decidedly different from UFC 100 however, this time it will be Michael Bisping who knocks Hendo out.

Here are 5 reasons why that is what will go down on October 8th in Manchester…

Conor McGregor Makes GRUESOME Prediction For UFC 202

0

There’s a whole lot on the line at UFC 202 on August 20, 2016. Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz have a heap of unfinished business to address. Their main event rematch is a rich tapestry of trash talking history.

On just 11 day notice Diaz silenced the crowds of McGregor fans at UFC 196. He’d engaged in some heavy verbal wars with the outspoken Irishman before March 5, but few expected the eventual outcome.

The intense staredowns and press conferences meant little on fight night, as Diaz submitted McGregor in two rounds. The heavy favorite and ‘cash cow’ of the UFC had been humiliated like never before.

His first UFC loss seems to have motivated McGregor, as a number of recent videos and social media posts indicate. The Irish superstar has been working hard on his Jiu Jitsu game, but many question whether he’ll be able to hang with Diaz on the mat.

Shane Carwin Coming Out of Retirement For UFC Title Run

0

Shane Carwin is returning to mixed martial arts.

The former UFC interim heavyweight champion is now 41 years old and last fought in 2011, when Junior Dos Santos separated his face from his head.

Shane_Carwin_bloody_face

Images of a bloody Shane Carwin after that fight were something of a meme-enthusiasts dream, but it was not those injuries that ended his career.  Rather it was an accumulation of back injuries that eventually forced Carwin to retire.

Just one year before the drubbing at the hands of JDS, Shane Carwin was as close as you can get to being the UFC Heavyweight Champion of the world, without actually being it.  He was the interim champion, the champion who was holding a title while Brock Lesnar recovered from diverticulitis.

The title unification bout between Shane Carwin and Brock Lesnar at UFC 116, is a throwback fight, back to the days of “the Hammer” Mark Coleman.  To when big heavyweights sometimes lost championships because they gassed out.
