5. Mark Hominick at UFC 129
In the first ever UFC featherweight title fight, Aldo was forced to shut down an ultra-offensive opponent in Mark Hominick at UFC 129.
Despite fighting on Canadian soil, Aldo pressured the veteran early and often in effort to take the wind out of nearly 56,000 people. The champ’s offensive onslaught left Hominick nursing one of the worst hematomas in UFC history.
However, “The Machine” stuck around to make a significant comeback in the later rounds, pushing through the fact that he had a softball sticking out of his head. His elite kickboxing finally began to shine through on the heels of an Aldo energy dump.
But in order to solidify his role as the leader of the newly instated 145-pound division, the Brazilian stifled Hominick’s momentous rally by riding out a victory through timely takedowns and top control.
