In one of the most historic knockouts in UFC history, Aldo finished Chad Mendes by knee at UFC 142 with literally one second left in the first round.

The flash stoppage put a cap on the budding rivalry until Mendes worked his back to a title shot nearly three years later.

What people tend to forget is that Aldo was losing that round before Mendes’ failed clinch along the cage sent him flying to the canvas. Mendes had not only out-struck the champion in the first frame 13 to 11, but he was dictating the pace of the fight.

It was one of the first five minutes of a fight in which we saw Aldo scrambling for answers, but he still managed to end the night with one shot and an infamous crowd surf.
