2. Frankie Edgar at UFC 156
While Hominick encompassed a long history of kickboxing outside of the Octagon, Frankie Edgar is the best all-around striker that Aldo has ever faced.
His footwork, head movement, combinations, speed, and overall volume remain as good as anyone’s in the sport today. The fact that the champion was able to bypass the quicker Edgar showcased his true potential as a once-in-a-lifetime athlete.
The bout lasted a grueling five rounds, like almost every other Aldo title defense, and left Edgar fighting for a comeback over the final 10 minutes. He was arguably a round or two away on the judge’s scorecards from turning a unanimous decision loss into a title victory, but Aldo presented enough offense and creativity to outpoint the former lightweight champ.
Edgar’s effort and Aldo’s resolve has long left fans wanting a rematch.
