David Yost
Professional heavyweight MMA fighter David Yost’s decision to step in to defend a friend at the Mermaid’s Gentlemen’s Club in central Florida back in 2015 cost him his life.
The 35-year-old Yost, who held a 9-3 record, lept to his friend’s defense when he got into a physical altercation with a staff member over an unpaid bar bill.
Fists started flying and in the brawl that followed multiple other employees at the club became involved and tackled Yost to the floor, which reportedly resulted in his neck being broken.
When police arrived on the scene Yost was breathing but unresponsive, but was later pronounced dead in hospital.
