Priscila Cachoeira Told To Shut Up
On paper Brazil’s Priscila Cachoeira appeared to be completely overmatched when she was scheduled to fight Valentina Shevchenko in 2018, and sure enough, in the first round she was beate up by the future flyweight champion.
Worst still, Cachoeira had also injured her knee in the opening round, and told her coach as much between rounds, but she didn’t receive any sympathy.
“She was in pain, she got hurt in the first exchange, and told me between rounds that she hurt her knee, but I told her to shut up,” Gilliard Parana sheepishly admitted afterwards.
What he didn’t appreciate at the time was that Cachoeira was actually suffering from a serious injury, having torn her ACL.
H claimed he would have stopped the fight if he’d realized, but instead he sent Cachoeira back out to get beaten up even more, before mercifully Shevchenko finished her with a rear-naked choke.
Cachoeira had to undergo surgery on her knee afterwards and spent over a year recovering.
