Donald Cerrone’s Eye Swells Shut

Following the conclusion of the second round of his fight with Tony Ferguson at UFC 238 earlier this year, Donald Cerrone was in bad shape.

His nose had already been broken, and in the closing seconds of the second round Ferguson had made it worse by landing an elbow and then a solid right hand, then after the bell landed another hard straight right to his nose, resulting in a warning from the referee.

Cerrone’s corner did their best to tend to him between rounds, but as he got back off his stool, one of the UFC’s most tenured competitors then made a rookie mistake by attempting to clear his nose of blood.

The reason fighters are warned not to do this with a broken nose became immediately apparent as Cerrone’s right eye suddenly swelled completely shut.

With ‘Cowboy’ unable to see out of it, the referee had no option but to wave off the fight, handing a TKO victory to Ferguson, while Cerrone was was lucky to escape suffering a broken orbital bone, which often results from blowing a broken nose.
