Matt-Hughes-vs-Royce-Gracie

9. Matt Hughes vs. Royce Gracie

When Royce Gracie returned to the UFC to take on Matt Hughes in had been 11 years since his last fight for the promotion.

Gracie left the UFC after fighting Ken Shamrock to a draw at UFC 5. He competed in Pride, losing for the first time after his corner threw in the towel in his bout against Sakuraba, but also had many successful fights in Japan. Gracie was nearly 40 when he fought Matt Hughes at UFC 60, while Hughes was in his prime. It wasn’t even close.

In the end Hughes gave up on an armbar attempt, knowing that Gracie would never tap. Instead Hughes opted to end the fight via strikes, which he did before the end of round 1.
